    Women’s Weekend

    Carley Young from Ride Like A Girl will be hosting Women’s Weekend at the park along with guest instructors Karen Brooks, Shanna Powell and others. There will be a variety of skill clinics and events including a ride to Frick Park and an after party at OTB in the South Side.

    General Information:

    Dates: June 27th and 28th.

    Price: $60 for the weekend pass, instruction, sticker & shirt or $50 for the weekend pass, instruction & sticker.

    Registration: Call 412-362-3693, stop by the park or online at this LINK (Click “Events” then “Women’s Weekend.”).

    *Schedule Change: The Sunday MTB ride at Frick Park will start at 2:00pm due to OpenStreetsPGH.

    Lock-In

    What is a Lock-In? Think of it as an old school lock-in at the rec-center or school, but with bikes and skateboards!  Yes, people do ride all night long, with a power nap here and there. There is food, games, contests, other random events, raffles and often a product toss. Prepare for a night of fun with friends, bikes and boards!

    The basics to know:

    June 19th.

    Sign in/drop off 8pm-10pm.

    Pre-register by clicking this LINK (Click “Events then click “Lock In) or call 412-362-3693.

    For ages 8-14.

    No admission after 10pm.

    Checkout is 7am-9am.

    $25 for season pass holders/$35 for non-season pass holders.

    Parents do not have to stay. We will have staff and volunteers there to supervise for the night.

    What to Bring:

    A good fun loving attitude.

    A valid waiver, if it is your first time.

    What you plan to ride all night and a helmet (We have limited rentals available. If you need a rental bike or helmet, please email mike@thewheelmill.com to reserve)

    A sleeping bag, if you want to take a nap.

    Spending cash.

    What Not to Bring:

    A bad attitude.

    Tents

    Items of value that you cannot keep with you at all times.

    Schedule:

    9pm –  Free ride!

    10pm –  Bunnyhop & Highest Ollie contests.

    10:45pm – Game of B.I.K.E. & S.K.A.T.E.

    11:30pm –  Food.

    Midnight –Group photo.

    12:15am – Dodgeball (rule #1, No Crying or your team loses).

    1am – Foot Down!

    2am – Most Laps in the Beginner Jump Line.

    3am – Ping Pong

    4am – Scavenger hunt

    5am – Breakfast

    6am – Clean up, anybody that helps can earn raffle tickets

    7am – Raffle & product toss

    9am – Say Goodbye!

    *Schedule subject to change.

    We reserve the right to search attendees bags at anytime, if they choose not to have their bag searched they will be sent home.  There is a zero tolerance policy for theft and contraband at The Wheel Mill.

    We’re excited to have the Next Generation Jam back again for 2015! Here is some information about the jam:

    General Info:

    Date: March 28th

    Time: 12-8pm

    Cost: Normal park prices apply. There is no additional fee.

    Event Formats:

    Age groups are 7 & under, 8-12 and 13-17.

    No sign ups necessary show up and get in line!

    Expo: Tables and games from various sponsors. Runs all day next to the Fundamental Skills Room.

    G-Form Pads Demo: G-Form will be demoing their pads for free and showing off samples of their new youth line.

    Lil Shredder Bike Demo: Try some of the best youth mountain bikes on the market for free!

    FiveTen Demos: Try FiveTen kids shoes for free!

    Skill Challenges: Ask our guest professionals (Listed Above) for a challenge and complete that challenge and win a prize!

    Pro Bikes Tire Change Challenge: Pro Bikes will be testing your bike maintenance skills! The fastest tire change of the day will go home with a prize.

    Deek Design Instragram Photo Contest: We’ll be looking for who captures the day the best! Whoever takes the best photo will walk away with a prize package from Deek Design. Make sure to @NextGenerationJam and #NextGenJam.

    G-Form Ice Cream Party: Free ice cream at our awards ceremony compliments of G-Form!

    Events: 

    We’ll be having a series of events. Here is a break down of what the rules are.

    Pump Track Time Trails:

    – Located in our pump track.

    – No sign ups necessary show up and get in line!

    – Each rider will get 1 chance around the pump track.

    – They will be timed.

    – Fastest rider in each age group will be a prize!

    Thick Bikes Strider Race:

    – Located upstairs in our Fundamental skills room.

    – No sign ups necessary show up and get in line!

    – Must be on a push bike.

    – Fastest rider gets a prize!

    Jaunt Mini Expert Wooden Rhythm:

    – Located in The Woods Jump Room.

    – Experts only.

    – Must have a partner and do a 2 person train.

    – 1 run per team.

    – No sign ups necessary show up and get in line!

    – Highest scoring group will win a prize. (Judged on creativity, difficulty, style and execution)

    Foot Down:

    – Located in The Woods Jump Room.

    – No sign ups necessary show up and get in line!

    – Multiple games with different rules will be played. We’ll explain the rules at the time of the game.

    – No pegs.

    – Top riders will win a prize.

    Jaunt Mini Wooden Rhythm Beginner:

    – Located at the Beginner Jump Line.

    – Beginners and Intermediates only.

    – Must have a partner. Each rider does an individual run. Both of the riders scores combine.

    – 1 run for each rider in a team.

    – No sign ups necessary show up and get in line!

    – Highest scoring team will win a prize. (Judged on creativity, difficulty, style and execution)

    Park Room Best Trick:

    – Located in the Park Room.

    – 10 Minute Jam to find the best riders.

    – 8 riders will be picked and put into a 10 minute a Best Trick Jam.

    – The best trick will be awarded a prize.

    This Saturday, March 7th is the Foot Down Classic. Games start at 6pm and there is a cash prize to the winner. It’s $3 to play. We will have two groups: 12 and under and 13 and over. Multiple games and variations such as Dodge Ball Foot Down will be played. Come out for a night of fun and foot down action.

    Our Indoor Mountain Bike Festival, Wood Fest, went down in the park in January. The day was full of great events from clinics by TakeAim Cycling to the Dirt Rag Garage Sale and it all wrapped up with indoor camping. If you didn’t get a a chance to indoor camp, don’t forget go pack you tent for next years Wood Fest
