    Outside Bike Rental

    We now offer out of park rentals with our Transition Mountain Bikes. Enjoy all the great trails and skill parks that TrailPGH maintains around the Pittsburgh Region. Just one mile away from The Wheel Mill is one of Pittsburgh’s best trail systems at Frick Park. Frick Park is a tight trail network of nice maintained single track and fire roads. The park has been rated the best urban mountain bike trails multiple years. For more information about our rental program click this LINK.

    Strider Races at Family Night

    Join us at The Wheel Mill on September 11th, October 9th, November 13th and December 11th at 7:00pm for Strider Races! Bring the little ones and their push bikes for an all-skills event on Family Night at the park. The races are open to riders 7 and under, and are free with paid admission to the park. All riders will receive a free number plate and ribbon!

    Women’s Weekend

    Carley Young from Ride Like A Girl will be hosting Women’s Weekend at the park along with guest instructors Karen Brooks, Shanna Powell and others. There will be a variety of skill clinics and events including a ride to Frick Park and an after party at OTB in the South Side.

    General Information:

    Dates: June 27th and 28th.

    Price: $60 for the weekend pass, instruction, sticker & shirt or $50 for the weekend pass, instruction & sticker.

    *Schedule Change: The Sunday MTB ride at Frick Park will start at 2:00pm due to OpenStreetsPGH.

    The end of the Winter Season Pass is April 14th. Come get your last minute sessions in before your pass runs out.  All bikes for Winter Season Passes must be removed from bike storage unless you hold a Summer Season Pass. Summer Season Passes begin April 15th.

    Our Indoor Mountain Bike Festival, Wood Fest, went down in the park in January. The day was full of great events from clinics by TakeAim Cycling to the Dirt Rag Garage Sale and it all wrapped up with indoor camping. If you didn’t get a a chance to indoor camp, don’t forget go pack you tent for next years Wood Fest

    On January 31st, we will be hosting Wood Fest an indoor mountain bike festival. Throughout the day, there will be clinics by TakeAim Cycling, bike demos from local bike shops, challenges/contests, Dirt Rag Garage Sale, food and drink from OTB and Point Brugge, and indoor camping!

    Any individual can set up a table for the Dirt Rag Garge Sale and/or get a campsite but spots are limited. To reserve a spot click this LINK.

    Schedule:

    10am-5pm: Riding related activities; Clinics with Harlan Price from TakeAim Cycling, Log Over Challenge, Food Down, Skinny Challenge and Pump Track Challenge.

    5:00pm-9:00pm: Dirt Rag Garage Sale.

    6:00pm: Food and Bar Open.

    10:00pm-10:30pm: Camp Set Up (Must reserve).

    10:30pm: MTB Movie on the Big Screen.

    Rates:

    To Ride: Normal riding rates apply.

    To Compete: No Charge.

    T0 Camp: $15 (Must reserve).

    Clinics: No Charge. First come, first serve.

    Garage Sale Spot: Free with reservation.

    Food and Drink: Assorted Prices. Cash only.

    Welcome Jam

    The Winter Welcome Jam is being hosted at the park January 17th. Normal riding rates apply and spectators are $5. Here is a schedule of events and bands that will be playing at the jam.

    Jams:

    Kids Lap Challenge at 2:00pm on the Beginner Jump Line. (The rider 15 years old 0r younger that goes the most laps wins)

    Subrosa Street Rail Jam at 3:30pm in the Park Room. 15 Minute rail jam judged by Subrosa’s Nick Bullen.

    Pump Track Jam at 5:00pm. 15 Minute Jam to award the Jaunt Pump Champ.

    The Woods Jump Room Jam at 7:00pm. 30 minute jam for Deluxe BMX Best Table, Profile Racing Best Trickster, G-form Best Whip, and Pro Bike’s Best Style

    QBP Lap Challenge at 8:00pm in The Woods Jump Room (The rider that goes the most laps gets $100 or if they go over 50 laps they receive their lap total X $2 in cash)

    Red Bull Wooden Rhythm

    A new BMX competition, Red Bull Wooden Rhythm makes BMX trail riding a team sport by synchronizing riders in their choreographed train! Some of the region’s best trail crews will be showcasing their choreographed BMX trains in The Wheel Mill’s Woods Jump Room at Red Bull Wooden Rhythm. Judged by local Pennsylvania BMX trail legends Brandan Pundai, Jason Steig, and Todd Walkowiak, the crew’s trains with the highest scores judged on choreography, difficulty, and execution will earn them a $1,000 cash prize.

    Red Bull Wooden Rhythm will take place on Saturday, December 6th. Doors open to the public at 6:00pm and the Main Event begins at 7:00pm. This event is free to the public.

    Details

    Main Event:

    – 7 crews will compete: 6 invited regional trail crews and 1 wild card crew (no trail affiliation needed)

    – Crews will consist of 3 members and 1 alternate (optional). Only 3 members will compete at once.

    – Crews will have three runs and the lowest score will be dropped. The two highest runs will be added together for the crews final score.

    – Crews have 60 seconds to complete their train.

    – Trains will be judged on Choreography (50 points), Difficulty (25 points), and Execution (25 points) for 100 total points each run.

    Wild Card Qualifying:

    To include the entire regional BMX Trails scene, we will be opening up Red Bull Wooden Rhythm Wild Card Qualifier to any crew that was not invited. Wild Card practice and qualifying will take place December 6th from 4:00pm-6:00pm. The winner of the Wild Card Qualifier will compete against the 6 invited crews in the Red Bull Wooden Rhythm Main Event for the $1,000 top prize!

    Qualifier Rules:

    – There will be 12 spots available for crews of 3 riders. The first 12 crews to sign up on event day will be given the chance to qualify.

    – Crews cannot have a professional bike rider (ask Red Bull Wooden Rhythm staff for approval if you are unsure of a rider’s eligibility).

    – Wild Card crew members do not have to all be from a specific set of trails.

    – Crews get two runs and the lowest score will be dropped.

    – Crews have 60 seconds to complete their train.

    – Wild Card Registration is from 11:00am-4:00pm.

    – Trains will be judged on Choreography (50 points), Difficulty (25 points), and Execution (25 points) for 100 total points each run.

    General Rules:

    – All riders must sign a waiver.

    – All riders must wear a helmet.

    – All riders must be 18 years old or older.

    – Professional riders not eligible to compete (ask Red Bull Wooden Rhythm staff for approval if you are unsure of a rider’s eligibility).

    – All in attendance must follow The Wheel Mill’s general park rules.

    – If you are invited as a crew, each crew member must be a local of that set of trails (unless approved by Red Bull Wooden Rhythm staff).

    – Red Bull Wooden Rhythm staff reserve the right to make all final decisions on participant eligibility and production of event.

    Event Day Timeline: 

    11:00am-1:00pm = Open Practice for invited and Wild Card Crews

    1:00pm-4:00pm = Private Practice for invited Crews

    4:00pm-5:00pm = Open Practice for Wild Card Crews

    5:00pm-6:00pm = Wild Card Qualifying

    7:00pm-8:30pm = Main Event
